In science, a change means any difference that happens in a substance, object or system. The difference may be in shape, size, state, colour, temperature, smell, composition or chemical properties.
For example, ice melting into water is a change. Paper being cut into small pieces is also a change. Wood burning into ash and gases is also a change. But all these changes are not the same type.
Types of Change
Changes are mainly divided into two important types: physical change and chemical change.
If no new substance is formed, the change is usually physical. If a new substance with new properties is formed, the change is chemical.
Why This Topic Matters
Chapter 1 of Class 10 Science is based on understanding changes. Chemical reactions are actually chemical changes written and explained in scientific language. So, if the idea of change is clear, chemical reactions become much easier.
Science me change ka matlab hai kisi substance, object ya system me koi difference aana. Ye difference shape, size, state, colour, temperature, smell, composition ya properties me ho sakta hai.
Ice ka water me change hona, paper cut hona aur wood ka burn hona, teeno changes hain. Lekin ye changes same type ke nahi hote.
Types of Change
Changes mainly do types ke hote hain: physical change aur chemical change.
Agar new substance nahi banta, change usually physical hota hai. Agar new substance new properties ke saath banta hai, change chemical hota hai.
